As a person who has lived in Martin for almost 40 years, I have to say that the city of Martin has never looked better. All of the new renovations in downtown Martin - the streets and lights and the new city hall, look fantastic. University Street has never looked better.
The Soybean Festival was a wonderful success and I think it has put our town on the top of the list of all the surrounding communities. I think congratulations are in order for Mayor Brundige, our aldermen, and all city officials and employees who have worked on downtown Martin. Job Well Done!

Time Is Running Out

Time is running out for the first time buyer tax credit. The purchase of your new home must be closed by Nov. 30. Due to demand in the market, mortgage companies are taking about 6 weeks to process their loan paperwork. Buyers need to work with their realtor NOW to find the home and negotiate the contract. This process does not happen over night.

There is still confusion about this credit. It is a true credit against taxes due, if you don't owe any taxes you get a refund check up to $8000. This is not a deduction, but a true tax credit! Talk to your tax advisor to see if you qualify.

Regardless of the weather real estate is always a challenging business! For instance when it's raining like cats and dogs like it has been for the past 2 weeks it provides a good opportunity to check roof leaks and drainage issues.

In May I will be closing my first real estate transaction, with a single mom who has two children, that will get the benefit of the $8,000 Tax Credit. This is $8,000 additional dollars that will be "added" to her regular tax refund next year. She is thrilled about purchasing her new home and getting some additional money next year for remodeling and upgrades!
